For instant fun, just add water.
That’s the recipe for giving an event a different twist or getting a new perspective on the city. Two cruise options are available for a see-it-by-boat trip or private charter.

River District Canal Cruises are another way to get a turtle’s-eye view of things. Narrated 40-minute tours of the Kanawha and James River canals depart hourly from the Turning Basin between 14th and Virginia streets in Shockoe Bottom from April to mid-November. Cost is $4-5 (4 and younger free).
The 38-passenger canal boats also are available for one-hour charters and onboard dining.

The James River is both setting and star at Eagle Cruises, a charter company featuring the 102-foot Eagle One, which holds up to 149 passengers for weddings, corporate parties and other group events. Owned and operated by Capt. Bert Lewis, Eagle One takes guests downriver for about eight miles and then returns during the three-hour cruise.
Charters offer many options, including lunch, dinner and moonlight cruises. Bar packages and DJ entertainment also are available. Prices vary according to number of passengers and options. Cruises depart from the pier at 3101 Wharf St., off Dock Street.
