Tuckahoe Plantation, seven miles west of Richmond on River Road in Goochland County. Architectural historians consider Tuckahoe the finest existing early-18th-century plantation in America. Built by Thomas Randolph in 1712, grounds include the school where Thomas Jefferson studied. Tours by appointment: gardens and grounds, $3; house tours, $5 -$10 per person; group rate available.
