If lush green acres spread out over 471 square miles is what you are looking for, Hanover County is the place to be. Hanover County is great horse country and boasts some of the finest livestock farms in central Virginia. It is also the home of the internationally renowned Hanover tomato.
New Communities in Works
(Hanover County real estate zones are areas 36 and 44. Ashland is area 39. See Zone Map on page 77.)
Two growing communities in Hanover are Bell Creek and Charter Lake at Kings Charter, though neither made the Top 10 list of new home sales for the year ending in March.
Rutland is now under construction and will be Hanover’s first large-scale mixed-use development, being built on Rt. 301 in Area 36.
Bell Creek will consist of 535 residential units when complete, including condos for seniors. It will also contain a 157-acre business park and 20 acres of retail space.
Bell Creek includes 124 acres of a former Civil War battlefield and the circa 1670 house where Patrick Henry married. There’s a clubhouse with swimming pool, tennis courts, and walking and jogging trails.
Charter Lake at Kings Charter offers lakefront homes from $380,000. Pools, tennis courts, a clubhouse and workout room round out the amenities here. There are only about a dozen home sites left. Kings Charter was one of the first planned communities in Hanover County.
The town of Ashland is defined by its turn-of-the-century gingerbread houses and the railroad track that runs through town. Randolph-Macon College, the oldest Methodist college in the United States, is also located here.
