The name “Chimborazo” comes from the highest peak in Ecuador.

Richmond acquired the land for the park in 1874. The Richmond National Battlefield Park Association  moved its headquarters to Chimborazo Park in 1958.

Chimborazo Park is located in historic Church Hill, east of downtown Richmond. The home of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Also, several hundred houses in the area restored since 1956. Offers a superb view of the city.

Chimborazo Park is also home to a dog park that covers more than 800 square feet and includes two fenced spaces, one for large dogs and one for smaller dogs. The area is in the lower section of the park at 32nd and East Broad streets and opened Aug. 16, 2008.
