Part of the 1864 overland campaign
Garthright House - This restored house served as a Union field hospital during the Battle of Cold Harbor. It later became a Confederate hospital. After June 3, 1864, the Garthright house was behind the line of Major General Horatio Wright's Federal VI Corps. For ten days Union surgeons used the house as a field hospital. During the battle members of the Garthright family sought shelter in the basement. The house, parts of which date back to the 1700s, is an exterior exhibit only and not open to the public.
